Season ending races of the Superprestige Series & X2O Trofee

The cyclocross season is slowly but steadily coming to an end and with the season final of the Telenet Superprestige series in Gavere, Belgium, and the last round of the X2OBadkamers Trofee in Brussels, two top-class events were held last weekend, with Annemarie Worst, Manon Bakker, Aaron Dockx and Mees Hendrikx being able to achieve strong podium finishes.

The weekend kicked off on Saturday with the final round of the Telenet Superprestige series in Gavere, Belgium. Held in dry weather conditions and on a less challenging track, Annemarie Worst (Team 777) managed to finish 2nd behind day’s and championship winner, Lucinda Brand. Overall and after seven events held, Annemarie finishes the series in a great 3rd place, tied on points with runner-up and day’s 3rd placed Denise Betsema. Aniek van Alphen (Team 777) crossed the finish line in 5th place, Manon Bakker (IKO-Crelan) came in 6th on Saturday. In the overall standings and behind Annemarie in 3rd place, her teammate Inge van der Heijden (Team 777) finished 4th ahead of Aniek in 5th. Manon Bakker and her teammate, Yara Kastelijn would finish 6th and 7th overall while Sanne Cant (IKO-Crelan) had to settle for 9th overall.

In the Juniors rankings and in a strong field of riders, it was Aaron Dockx who secured a 3rd place in the day’s standings behind Yordi Corsus and David Haverdings. In the elite men's race, Marcel Meisen fell short of his potential and finished in 17th place, while in the overall standings, Belgian STEVENS rider Jens Adams finished the series in a great 7th place.

On Sunday and at the season finale of the X2O Badkamers Trofee, which was held on the campus of the University of Brussels, the riders were greeted by one of the most technical tracks of the season, which gained further character due to a mostly dry surface. This made for a comparatively spread out field in which STEVENS rider Manon Bakker (IKO-Crelan) finished 3rd behind reigning European Champion Lucinda Brand. With fifth-placed Annemarie Worst (Team 777) and her teammate Aniek van Alphen (6th), another two STEVENS riders made it into the top 10. With her good result, Annemarie was able to secure a 3rd place overall behind runner-up, Denise Betsema and overall winner, Lucinda Brand. Belgian record national champion, Sanne Cant ends the X2O Badkamers Trofee season 2021/22 sitting in 5th place overall, Manon Bakkers comes in 7th overall and Aniek van Alphen rounds out the overall top 10.

In the Men’s Elite race, STEVENS rider Jens Adams (Hollebeekhoeve) laid down in a strong performance. Fighting for 2nd place for a long time, he had to let go a bit in the final stages of the race to bring home a very good 3rd place behind 2021/22 World Championship 3rd placed rider, Eli Iserbyt. As in the Telenet Superprestige series, Jens was able to finish 7th overall in the 2021/22 X2O Badkamers Trofee.

In the Mens U23 field, Mees Hendrikx secured the final podium spot, narrowly beaten by Joran Wyseure and overall winner Pim Ronhaar. This puts Mees in a good 6th place overall out of over 150 U23 riders in the 2021/2022 season while his Belgian IKO-Crelan teammate, Lennert Bellmans secures himself the final top 10 spot.
