The STEVENS Aspin in its basic version is spec’d with a Shimano Ultegra group and Mavic Aksium wheels. In the STEVENS Custom Configurator you can have it built to your exact wishes and body measurements. For this, seven component groups, several wheelsets, handlebars and stems in many different widths and lengths are available.
In a test of road bikes in the 2,000-Euro class RennRad’s editors have equipped the well-designed aluminium frame with a complete Shimano Ultegra group and higher-level Mavic Ksyrium wheels. They also opted for a race-oriented transmission with 53/39 teeth chainrings in front and an 11-25 teeth cassette at the rear. ”This is a good fit for the rather sporty lay-out of the Stevens” the editors’ argued.
Quite an agile handling was the result of the sporty lay-out and a rather stretched-out seating position. Those who prefer to sit more upright for extended touring could add more spacers under the stem (note: Upon request the bike comes with an uncut fork steerer so the buyer can have the exact adjustments performed by the dealer).
In addition the Custom System offers a choice of handlebar width as well as stem length. Also because of these and adjustability options the STEVENS Custom Configurator won last year’s Custom System comparative test of RennRad Magazine.
The aluminium frame was recognizable as such only at a closer look. ”The tubes are smooth welded, meaning the welds are hardly detectable. Seat tube and steerer tube are tapered (…). For an aluminium frame lateral stiffness and weight are on a good level.” Also the paint job was of the long-lasting kind. ”The bike is a rock-solid design and made to last.” Other parts, too, like the finishing kit made by STEVENS’ in-house brand Oxygen are good quality, while the Continental Grand Prix 4000 S II tires were above-average in this price range.
Conclusion: ”The Stevens excels by its versatility and sturdiness. Those who are looking for a durable but sporty aluminium road bike can’t do anything wrong by buying it.”
