”Full-Throttle” are the introductory words in ElektroBIKE’s test report about the STEVENS E-8X. On tarmac and in light terrain it was really fun to ride, says ElektroBIKE, – and this is exactly what this e-cross bike was made for.
The major source for that much fun was, according to the testers, the combination of powerful motor with well-balanced set-up: ”The strong Bosch Performance CX motor pushes the Stevens E8X forward with authority, yet well-mannered. The lightest e-bike in the test field also provided a sporty, agile handling.”
The studded Schwalbe Smart Sam tires were a good fit for any type of terrain as well as the SR Suntour air suspension fork with lock-out. Matching the e-crosser’s sporty lay-out its ride characteristics were somewhat on the harsh side. Compared to touring pedelecs it lacked a little in comfort which was the only point that gave reason for minor complaint. For the highest (lab-tested) range, for the Bosch Performance CX motor and the great handling respectively it received the best marks.
At 19.9kg (48.84lbs) the STEVENS E-8X was the lightest pedelec in a test field of touring and sports e-bikes, which admittedly was also due to sporty-minimalistic outfit. Those who want to have their E-8X with its ”minimalistic, yet high-quality specs” retrofitted with fenders, pannier rack and kick-stand for daily city crossing may want to visit their local STEVENS dealer. He or she can offer their expertise which components are the best fit for this pedelec.
Conclusion: On tarmac and in light terrain the Stevens E-8X e-crosser was really fun to ride thanks to its powerful motor and well-balanced set-up. Sportier riders will be able to handle the lack of comfort.
