STEVENS Bikes partner and supplier for pannier racks, tubus carrier systems GmbH (brands Tubus and Racktime) has informed that there is an increasing number of child seats on the market which are fixed to the pannier rack via clamped joint.
This type of fixation “can lead to breakage in the pannier rack”, says the manufacturer on their FAQ webpage https://www.racktime.com/en/service (click racktime.com > Service > FAQ). Because of that, tubus carrier systems excludes damages caused by child seats attached in such a manner from warranty.
STEVENS Vertriebs GmbH hereby also declares that all damages, caused by child seats attached to the pannier rack of a STEVENS bike by clamping mount, are not covered by warranty or product liability. The exclusion from warranty and product liability does not only apply to models from Racktime but to ALL pannier racks sold by STEVENS Vertriebs GmbH.
STEVENS Vertriebs GmbH also caution that a child seat attached by clamp joint to a Racktime or any other pannier rack may cause an accident and lead and severe damage to the child and/or the rider.
Tubus carrier systems GmbH continues its FAQ advise: ”Our pannier racks are made from thin-walled tubing and are very resistant to bending and other loads occurring while riding. Only the attachment of parts such as a child seat may lead to breakage in the pannier rack.”
The manufacturer lists on their website some child seats and child seat adaptors available on the market (list is NOT exhaustive), which are attached by clamp mount unsuitable for Racktime pannier racks.
