"This is what test winners look like", RoadBIKE sums up its test report of STEVENS Stelvio in issue 7.2018. In the test of solid entry-level road bikes with mostly Shimano 105 group sets up to 1,300 Euros, "the old friend" – the Stelvio model was already a test candidate in the first RoadBIKE issue more than ten years ago – took the test victory in the category of specialist retail bikes.
A suitable frame, a reasonable group set, solid wheels, functional components - what more do you need to be happy?", ask the editors in the introduction to their test of solid entry-level road bikes and sum the answer up laudatory: "The bicycles in the current test leave nothing to be wished for".
In this test, the "flashy Stelvio" demonstrated its strengths with great composure - the pleasant endurance bike does not let anything scorch in any discipline. In the test field it offered the most sporty riding position – as it should be self-evident for road bikes – but consistently took the golden mean: "Very sporty in character, it runs quietly, reliably and safely. You sit slightly stretched without too much drop – comfortable enough for long hours on the saddle, central enough for precise handling".
With the comparatively light wheels, it willingly accelerates. "The Stelvio was (with 8.7 kilograms) one of the lightest bikes in the test. ... No frame of a specialist retail brand is lighter, a complete 105 group set and high-quality wheels go with it. In short, this is what test winners look like."
Conclusion: The Stevens is a flawless all-rounder without weaknesses: agile, safe, versatile. Test victory among the specialist retail brands.
