Hydraulic disc brakes have clearly established themselves in cyclocross since UCI gave its approval in 2010; this is demonstrated not only in the increasing demand but also in the fact that a growing number of top athletes opt for discs. In the past season for example this was the case with Sanne Cant: In November 2015 she won the European Championships still on her Super Prestige.
Mid-December she switched and triumphed once again in the Belgian Championships – but for the first time on a Super Prestige with disc brakes: Approaching the finish line on her home track in Lille she had so much advantage over the competition that she could climb off the bike, lift it up in the air, kiss it and walk across the finish line. With regard to the new model and brake system she said: “It is really different from cantilevers but I really like it. The first two races it was not easy, but now I know how to ride with it and I love it.” In addition to the European and National Championships Sanne Cant also won all three major race series of the 2015/16 season. Furthermore, she won the bronze medal in the World Championships.
For even more precise braking and to further increase lateral stiffness STEVENS cyclocross bikes with hydraulic disc brakes will be upgraded with QR12 thru axles and Flat Mount brake mounts to simplify assembly and adjustment. The new brake mounts also offer the advantage to accommodate all disc sizes between 140 and 180mm besides the 160 mm standard.
STEVENS Aluminium ’Cross Bikes
STEVENS Vapor as well as the Super Prestige Disc bikes will be updated with QR12 thru axles and Flat Mount brake attachments. Furthermore the aluminium frame will be equipped with Super Prestige’s carbon fork.
The trend towards disc brakes also shows in the noticeably updated STEVENS Prestige. Besides a new frame design with double-butted steerer tube and internal cable routing it was outfitted with Flat Mount brake mounts for Shimano’s BR RS505 hydraulic disc brakes. In addition the Prestige is fully spec’d with Shimano Ultegra and - like all other aluminium cross bikes – is also available in frame size 47cm that makes eight sizes altogether.
Another update of all aluminum cyclocross models starting with Prestige marks another trend: For the new model year all aluminium frames will be outfitted with eyelets for mounting mudguards front and rear as well as pannier racks. With fenders and battery-powered lights cyclocross bikes can be very easily turned into sporty all-season bikes that perform well on tarmac as well as on dirt roads.
Further details will be added to the Gavere (mechanical disc brakes TRP Spyre) and Namur (Tektro mini V-brakes) like brake cable routing inside the top tube.
The new Tabor adopts the new features fully and straight away. The entry-level crosser priced at 999 Euros is spec’d – among other things – with a ten-speed Shimano Tiagra group set and TRP Spyre disc brakes.
STEVENS has always committed to youth development in ’cross cycling by means such as the STEVENS Racing Team. For 2017, the new Junior CX offers an age appropriate entry to ’cross cycling. This model is available in frame size 38cm with 24” wheels, Tektro mini V-brakes and Shimano Sora group set – in order to support future World Champions.
