Wietse Bosmans of ERA-Circus is Belgian Marathon Champion. After 115km on his STEVENS Sonora SL war he out-sprinted Roel Paulissen, who wins Silver at the finish line in Malmedy. For Bosmans who as a cyclocrosser normally is used to races not longer than a little over an hour this is his first title over a long distance. ”I am really proud of that,” he said after the race.
Bosman was at the front of the field from the beginning – until a flat tire cost him a significant amount of time. ”I had to close a gap of three minutes, but I really felt good today so I was able to catch up.” During the further course of the race, he broke away together with last year’s winner Roel Paulissen. ”It became obvious that we had to duel it out”, the 26-year old Bosmans said and he continues: ”I am really happy that I eventually prevailed in the sprint.” Especially regarding the fact he had to re-gain three minutes, he really does deserve this title.
Loris Rouiller Is Swiss XCO Champion U19
Meanwhile Loris Rouiller had started the U19 cross country race in Switzerland. The Swiss and European Champion in this category gave proof of his talent on his Sonora SL. The race in Andermatt turned into a one-man show featuring Rouiller as the main actor. At the beginning of the second lap he broke away from the peloton for good and rode all remaining laps solo. ”I had a good start and felt terrific. It’s great that it worked-out for me so well.”
