Ahead since ‘91 – the milestones

From the past into the future.
If your roots lie in racing, you adopt a simple philosophy: Push and drive until you reach the finish – in winning position. Here, you can read everything about STEVENS. Find out what we think, where we came from and what we did so far.

2014

The Company

Ride the best – many test-winners

2014: Record Revenue

2014 has been the year with the highest turnover since the company’s foundation. The reasons for this might be the mostly nice weather all year round and an increased awareness for bikes as a means of transportation. But, of course, it was also our range of utility and race bikes, MTBs and pedal electric bikes that scored many top marks in several tests. And surely also our dealers who know how to convince customers of our light, sporty and good-value bikes.

2016: STEVENS E-Mountain Bikes

E-Mountain bikes with all their new technologies are about to revolutionize the world of mountain biking was the opinion stated in autumn of 2016. STEVENS in-house test lab

2017: Headquarter Extension

We added a new building to our headquarters for more space: Our technical customer service, the in-house test lab and all assembly stations are now gathered under one roof in the new wing of our company headquarters. Above the technical section, there’s the new show room on the first floor, presented for the first time to host the in-house fair in September. On the top floor there’s a new large conference and meeting room. All in all, the new wing that’s been attached to the existing headquarters offers 1,100 square meters (12,000 square feet) of office space over three stories – enough space for further growth.

2017: Sanne Cant Cyclocross World Champion

She finally made it! In January 2017 Sanne Cant finally wins the Cyclocross World Championships in Bieles, Luxemburg. The talented cyclocross racer already was a serial winner of the Belgian National Championships, had been European Champion several times and also won the World Cup overall. Yet, in the worlds she had always suffered bad luck. Now she rode her STEVENS Super Prestige to the finish line and prevailed in a thrilling finale over the great Marianne Vos. Congratulations! In addition in November she becomes European Champion again, owning all three major jerseys at least until January 2018.

2017: Multi-Talented Mathieu van der Poel

Mathieu van der Poel not only rides well in the mud. Even on rough terrain and fresh pavement the current Cyclocross European Champion did very well, especially in May.
He began at the cross country MTB world cup race in Nove Mesto where he started from place 90 to lap by lap advance to place eight. The following week he joined his team Beobank-Corendon in the Tour of Belgium (UCI 2.HC) where he won the second stage by outsprinting Philippe Gilbert.
The weekend after he started from the first grid at the Albstadt MTB world cup. Mathieu rode in front over four of eight laps and eventually was only defeated by World and Olympic Champion Nino Schurter. Only a few talents are as successful in three different cycling disciplines.

2017: The New Comet and Super Prestige Models

For model year 2018 which traditionally begins late August/early September we presented our new top-of-the-line models for road and cyclocross. The brand new Comet Disc shortly after its presentation passed its first hard test with best grades and lots of praise from the press for its light weight and high comfort, according to RoadBIKE it was a “straight-forward sportster without airs and graces”.
The completely re-designed and weight-reduced Super Prestige Disc stood out in a test by TOUR magazine with its “well-appreciated qualities”, best handling on tight courses and throughout well-chosen specs.

STEVENS Hausmesse

STEVENS In-house Exhibition

In 2018 we, for the first time, extended our in-house exhibition to eight days. From August 11th to 18th we welcomed over 1,000 guests – and introduced our almost 200 new 2019 models to dealers, journalists and partners. Some benefits of the visit to Hamburg were a longer duration of the show and an extended supporting programme including a collective boat trip on the river Elbe and the Hamburg harbour. On the first day we also introduced our business partners and suppliers and their range: Shimano, Bosch, Tubus/Racktime, DT Swiss, Busch+Müller, Fulcrum, SR Suntour and Schwalbe.
Rainer König, Director of Sales at STEVENS concluded: “The feedback from our dealers confirms that the new concept of our in-house show was a success.”

Developments

STEVENS Pedelec mit Powertube

PowerTube Pedelecs awarded with many prizes

For model year 2018 STEVENS’ engineers developed PowerTube pedelecs PowerTube Pedelecs – e-bikes with their Bosch battery nicely and conveniently integrated into the downtube. Not only the downtube design is new, but the whole frame was “designed and engineered” by our colleagues in the R&D department in Hamburg.
The pedelecs with the “PT5” suffix received great appreciation from dealers as well as from the press. PT5 models won two out of four tests (My Bike, RADtouren), were given a “recommendation” (aktiv Radfahren) or finished top-of-the crop in the test field (ElektroBIKE). In addition to the design the testers praised the handling and the laterally stiff frames.

Wout van Aert und Vérandas Willems-Crelan

2018 STEVENS road bikes were not only present in many spring classics but also successful. This was mostly due to Continental Team Vérandas Willems-Crelan and its captain Wout van Aert. The Cyclocross World Champion lived up to his ambitions to establish himself in road cycling and especially to be successful in World Tour spring classics (UCI 1.UWT) riding his STEVENS Xenon.
At first it was at the Strade Bianche, a single-day race in Italy featuring many gravel sections, where created a lot of buzz and gained appreciation by finishing third. This result was followed by a tenth place at Gent-Wevelgem, rank nine at the Tour of Flanders and a 13th place (same time as seventh) finish at Paris-Roubaix.
After a longer pause he continued and went to win the Tour of Denmark (UCI 2.HC) overall including two stage wins thanks also to a strong effort by his team. Another impressive feat was winning the Bronze medal in the European Road Championship in Glasgow to conclude the season.

It Was Sanne Cant’s Cyclocross Season

The exceptional Belgian talent already has been riding successfully for years – In the 2018 season she celebrated her 100th win. Also in 2018 everything just worked out: Sanne Cant won her tenth Belgian Championship, became European Championship and successfully defended her world champion title in superior fashion.
To sum it up, Sanne Cant went to wear all Jerseys that were there to win – riding her STEVENS Super Prestige she won the Belgian national series, the World Cup overall and the worlds’ Rainbow Jersey.
We are glad to have Sanne Cant continuing to ride STEVENS Super Prestige in the future!

STEVENS Factory in Bramsche

2019: Our OWN FACTORY IN BRAMSCHE

In January, the time had come: our STEVENS Produktions GmbH took over the production of the new bikes in Lower Saxony. A good 60 employees there are dedicated to wheel construction, specialise in e-bike production and assemble high-quality bicycles of all wheel segments on 5 assembly lines.

A good 40 thousand readers took part in the online survey of Delius-Klasing magazine titles. As in the previous year, STEVENS Bikes took first place among the readers of 'MYBIKE' magazine! 2019: BIKE BILD EDITION - THE "MEGA CAMPAIGN"

In cooperation with Axel Springer Verlag, STEVENS presents the City Flight as the "BIKE BILD Edition". The model, sold exclusively through participating STEVENS dealers, has an attractive RRP. In addition, the publisher's very large-scale nationwide media campaign will provide a boost in the spring: advertisements for the bike will appear in all BILD titles as well as Welt and Welt am Sonntag in ¼ to 1/1 pages.

Developments

STEVENS Pedelec mit Powertube

2019: PT 6 - INNER VALUES AND PREMIUM DESIGN

The new 625Wh batteries pose new challenges for bike designers. For example, the BOSCH battery integrated in the down tube disappears from view and enables new chic frame shapes. Thanks to elaborately designed multi-chamber systems in the down tube, the riding stability and durability of the PT 6 bikes achieve new best values on the test bench and in practical tests. So it made sense to offer "plus models" with a permissible total weight of 180 kg for this frame type for the first time.

Sports

2019: World and European champion on STEVENS Bikes

STEVENS has been involved in top cyclocross sport since 2003. With great success. Two STEVENS athletes took the championship title at the 2019 World Championships. Sanne Cant (elite women) and Ben Tulett (U19) repeated their victories from 2018, while 2018 World Champion Wout van Aert won the 2019 World Championship silver medal in the elite men's category. In addition, the young Dutch woman Annemarie Worst was crowned European champion. An indication of our cross-country dominance: STEVENS took the first three places in the elite women's classification at the European Championships.

We're right at the top again! A good 60,000 readers took part in the big survey of the Delius Klasing magazines "MYBIKE", "Tour" and "bike". This time, we won the silver Delius Klasing Awards 2020. We took 2nd place in the category "Best Complete Bike Brand" among the readers of the "MYBIKE" magazine. After two first places in 2018 and 2019, we see our work on high-quality bikes fully confirmed and feel spurred on to continue to go full throttle. NEVER STOP!

2020: CORONA AND THE BIKE BOOM

2020 will forever be remembered as a Corona year. For us, too, this extraordinary situation meant some adjustments in the workflow. But 2020, probably also accelerated by Corona, was the year of bikes. More and more people have discovered the bike as a piece of sports equipment, commuting substitute or free-time helper. The steep trend, which had gained momentum especially with the end of the first lockdown, continued throughout the year. This positive development is the long-awaited step towards more flexible mobility that we have been hoping for for a long time.

2021: 30 Years of STEVENS

STEVENS Bikes celebrates its 30th Anniversary in 2021. “Our ultimate mission has always been to offer our customers a high-quality product,” says Wolfgang von Hacht. Together with his brother Werner, he founded the STEVENS brand back in 1991. Close proximity to the racing scene has also accompanied the brand since its foundation. STEVENS quickly became the leading cyclocross brand in Germany and Europe. Numerous world and European champions ride or rode STEVENS. STEVENS currently employs over 100 people in its Hamburg headquarters and in production who now fully focus on the next challenge: micromobility. Be it E-MTB, E-Commuter or bike packing capable gravelbikes – the STEVENS product portfolio is ever growing. “Never Stop”!

With Kim von Hacht (33), Julian von Hacht (33) and Jacob von Hacht (31), the children of Werner and Wolfgang von Hacht will take over important management roles within the bicycle supplier in March 2021. “As a family and management, we are pleased that we can set up and continue to shape the further development of the company with the second generation in the interests of STEVENS, our employees, partners and, of course, the family,” says Wolfgang von Hacht. “Enthusiasm for the product, the trade and the partnership we live by are what characterize our new generation,” adds Werner von Hacht. Wolfgang von Hacht remains chairman of the management board. Kim von Hacht manages IT, human resources and administration, while Julian von Hacht takes charge of procurement, production, warehousing and product design. Jacob von Hacht, on the other hand, is responsible for marketing, customer service and sales.

2021: New top of the line bikes for road and gravel

For the model year 2022 STEVENS has presented new top of the line bikes for road and gravel. First and foremost is the new Arcalis, a full-breed aero racer for minimum aerodynamic drag and maximum speed. The bike knows how to convince the test editors and so the TOUR awarded it with an overall score of 1.7 – also because it is the third best bike ever measured in the TOUR wind tunnel. 207 watts of power at 45 km/h racing speed are a top-notch result, especially since with 202 watts and 205 watts the direct competitors are in very close reach. Another new bike, the Camino Pro, convinced the RoadBIKE editors: “Definitely one of the fastest gravel bikes we have ever ridden.” And the bike is not only convincing for sporty rides on loose surfaces. Thanks to a variety of luggage attachment points, the bike is the ideal basis for bike packing, which is becoming increasingly popular.

2021: Leonie Daubermann takes German Elite clas MTB title

At the German Cross Country Championships saw STEVENS rider Leonie Daubermann score a surprise victory in the Elite class ahead of Ronja Eibl (German U23 Cross Country Champion 2018 and 2019) and Nina Benz (German U23 Cross Country Champion 2020). Actually a U23 rider, the 2016 German Junior Champion achieved a great result with her STEVENS Sonora ES XC Carbon bike, which she herself had not thought possible. “This is the reward for the hard work of the past months. I know what depths I had to survive and appreciate it even more for that reason that here form, material and everything else have come together so optimally. I am overjoyed” she said after crossing the finish line.

2022: New E-Trekking, E-Allround and E-Urban Bikes

At the STEVENS in-house fair in September, STEVENS introduces new E-Trekking and E-Allround models, as well as the E-Strada E-Urban bikes for the 2023 model year. The E-Courier Plus, E-Triton 9.7.1 Plus, E-Universe 9.7.1 Plus and E-8X Tour Plus models are all based on a newly developed frame with clearance for up to 180 kilograms total weight and offer full Bosch "The smart system" integration for intelligent networking of all key drive components. Also completely redeveloped are the E-Urban models of the E-Strada series. The carbon-frame E-Strada 8.3.4, as well as the aluminum E-Strada 7.3.4 and 6.3.4 models, feature unobtrusive integration of the Mahle rear-motor drive system, making the bikes virtually indistinguishable from classic bicycles. All three models share a low overall weight for agile handling. Year-round commuters will appreciate the extensive touring kits with lights, mudguards and luggage racks (E-Strada 7.3.4 and 6.3.4 ).

2022: STEVENS REAFFIRMS CYCLASSICS COMMITMENT

STEVENS Bikes, as a long-standing partner of the Cyclassics in Hamburg, is extending its main sponsorship contract until 2024. STEVENS will thus be at the start of Germany's biggest cycling race for everyman for another three years, demonstrating its loyalty and close ties to racing, the event, our home town and the region. Oliver Schiek, Managing Director of the BEMER Cyclassics on the contract extension: "Consistency is a high commodity in these troubled times, which is why we are pleased to have STEVENS, a bicycle manufacturer from Hamburg, on board as our main sponsor for a good 15 years, who supports grassroots cycling with a lot of heart and soul and even more passion." Werner von Hacht, founder and shareholder of STEVENS, adds: "The STEVENS brand has its roots in bicycle racing and in this respect it is only logical that we support an event like the Cyclassics in our home town to the best of our ability. Actively and for many years as an active sponsor, we are deeply committed to the event, which is one of the sporting highlights of every Hamburg sports summer."

2022: THREE TITLES AT THE GERMAN CX CHAMPIONSHIPS

The STEVENS Racing Team rides to some of its biggest successes in a long time in difficult weather conditions at the German Cyclocross Championships 2022 in Luckenwalde near Berlin. In the Men's Elite race, team newcomer Marcel Meisen takes a clear victory ahead of his STEVENS teammate Jannick Geisler. For Marcel it was the sixth gold medal in a row, for which he laid the foundation early in the race and quickly established a safe lead over his pursuers. For the first triple success of the STEVENS Racing Team in the elite class, Yannick Gruner took third place. In the U19 juniors, Benjamin Krüger secured the final podium place ahead of STEVENS Racing Team teammate Fynn Termin in fourth place. In the Women's Elite class, Stefanie Paul was able to claim an excellent third place and thus the bronze medal. In the Masters 3 class, co-favorite Stefan Danowski secures the gold medal with a commanding victory, while Lars Erdmann takes the title in the Masters 4 category. In the end, with three national titles and a total of seven medals, the German Championship is one of the most successful of recent years.

2022: Featured

Once again, we are able to score test victories and editorial tips across our model range. New products such as the Arcalis Aero road bike (rennrad-news.de Price/Performance Tip) or the Camino Pro gravel bike (BikeBild Price/Performance Winner) convinced the testers just as much as evergreens such as the Primera or E-8X Tour (both MY BIKE test winners). Also high in the favor of the trade magazines: our excellent E-Inception E-Fully family – starting with the AM 6.6.1 up to the AM 9.7.2 GTF (both EMTB test winners).

2023: NEW LIGHT ASSIST E-MTB

Light and agile for maximum riding fun on the trail. That was the brief given to our engineers when developing the new STEVENS E-Maverick Light Assist E-Fully range, which was presented in September. The range comprises the two all-mountain models E-Inception AM 9.4.3 and AM 7.4.3 as well as the E-Enduro ED 9.4.3. A lightweight carbon frame finely tuned to its intended use and selected components result in an extremely low overall weight of the bikes (16.5 kg for the E-Maverick AM 9.4.3) for dynamic climbing, playful lightness on the trail and maximum control downhill. The E-Maverick is powered by the TQ-HPR50 Light Assist Drive Unit with a long-range 360 Wh battery. Virtually silent in normal operation, the drive unit is also whisper-quiet at high power output and high cadences. For the most natural riding experience you can have on an E-MTB.

2023: STEVENS In-HOUSE EXHIBITION

In September, STEVENS exclusively presented the new 2024 collection to its dealers at its headquarters in Hamburg. The annual event was rounded off with training sessions on the most important new products and technical innovations in the programme. Around 600 guests from the trade and press as well as partners from Germany and abroad were welcomed by colleagues from the sales team. Traditionally, the trade fair provides a comprehensive insight into the product programme for the coming model year and offers space for planning the coming financial year away from the usual trade fair activities of the well-known industry exhibitions. Guests also had the opportunity to test ride the new models in detail. Training sessions led by STEVENS engineers offered the opportunity to familiarise themselves even more thoroughly with the most important new bikes and technical innovations.

The E-Triton 7.6.1 was honoured with two awards. It was able to prevail against strong competitors in comparison tests by BikeBild and IMTEST. MY BIKE awarded the E-Inception TR 7.6.1 FEQ top marks for comfort and Radfahren magazine gave the Trekking Premium bike Avantgarde a "very good".
