The new STEVENS E-8X was an ”example for electric elegance” says ElektroRad magazine in its January 2017 issue. The Bosch Performance CX motor fitted the frame in a ”wonderfully aesthetic” manner just like the battery hugged the downtube. The outer appearance was complimented by the low-key matt black colour scheme.
Elegance not only on the outside: The well-positioned low center of gravity of the motor contributed to the ”calm ride character” of this e-crosser which also resulted in secure steering even when going downhill at high speed. Uphill ”the Bosch e-drive provided smooth power to efficiently push the rider upward”, the testers remarked.
This lightweight bike of just below 20kg (44lbs) is an effective climber also because the rider sits on this city cross pedelec in a sporty riding position, ElektroRad’s editors conclude.
The balanced sporty ride characteristics are further complimented by the other specs, the editors say. First and foremost, the light and adjustable SR Suntour air suspension fork: ”On rough forest trails you will appreciate this ”cushioning device”, which dampens terrain shocks very effectively.”
Other high-quality specs are found in the Shimano Deore XT shifters for ”smooth and controlled” gear changes and the hydraulic disc brakes from the same group. Overall for its concept, specs and ride characteristics the bike deserves an ’A’ (”very good”).
Conclusion:
Wonderfully uncomplicated e-crosser for all occasions, cultivated riding fun and balanced ride characteristics.
