The editors extensively rode the entry-level model of the new carbon fully series over marathons courses and trails. Beside the STEVENS Jura Carbon the Jura Carbon XT, das Jura Carbon XT Di2 as well as the Jura Carbon Team belong to the new full-suspension family. The entry-level model offers the same frame geometry as its bigger brothers but uses an aluminium rear triangle instead of a carbon one.
Rear suspension is provided by a Rock Shox Monarch cartridge, a well-proven Rock Shox Reba fork handles rough terrain in the front. With their respective 120mm of travel both elements offered enough reserve during testing. Both suspension components are tuned marathon-appropriately to buffer smaller hits. For paved sections and for climbing the fork as well as the rear shock can be semi or fully locked-out remotely from the handlebar.
The further components also worked flawlessly, the editors said. The combination of 2x11-speed Shimano XT and SLX drivetrain parts delivered convincing performance with its large gear range and an easily and fast-to-operate Side Swing front derailleur. The bike can be retrofitted with more top-shelf Shimano drivetrain components even with electronic ones without any problem: Like in all Jura Carbon models, there’s a battery compartment integrated into the frame just in front of the bottom bracket.
At this price level the spec’d hydraulic Shimano Deore disc brakes and 29” DT Swiss wheels shod in fast-rolling Rocket Ron tires would just make sense. The wheels featuring wider Boost hubs and thru-axles are distinctively stiffer than narrower wheels with standard quick releases. The 18in framed test bike used 29” wheels also frame sizes 20in and 22in roll on 29ers. Only the smallest size, 16in, is designed to work with smaller 27.5” wheels which are more size-appropriate.
The stiff carbon frame and the stiff wheels already provided lots of forward drive. Yet, especially the steep seat angle and shallow steerer tube of the STEVENS Jura Carbon are responsible for efficient power transfer to the ground. Combined with the somewhat longer wheelbase this geometry provided great directional stability and a more race-like seating position to the rider.
All in all, according to the editors, the Jura Carbon was an ideal partner for marathons and day trips. Equipped with wider tires and a dropper post it would offer even more potential for rougher terrain.
Conclusion: The Jura Carbon is an excellent partner for any kind of marathon.
The STEVENS Jura Carbon is available in sizes 16in (with 27.5” wheels) and in 18, 20 and 22in (with 29” wheels) for 2,999 Euros. The new carbon fully series also includes the Jura Carbon ES, the Jura Carbon ES Di2 and the top model Jura Carbon Team.
