The STEVENS Mira is the best spec’d model from STEVENS’ lady MTB range – Luna, Nema and Mira. The Dutch magazine’s editors liked it as a ”bike for women who enjoy comfortable off-road cruising”. From the very first looks they also liked the combination of the black frame with decorative elements and the elegantly curved top tube. The top tube is also quite short which provides the compact and comfortable seating position.
Yet, ride experience was more important than looks: The hardtail is a stable and safe ride, even on zigzag trails, in wet conditions and uphill. This was contributed by the aluminium frame and its high lateral stiffness.
Combined with the Shimano SLX/Deore drivetrain it converted pedaling force into forward drive almost directly. The whole set-up is also perfectly size-appropriate, because as Bike Freak Magazine points out, the Mira with an 18in frame rolls on 29” wheels for the benefit of well-tuned ride behavior.
The lockable 100mm travel fork was as much to the female testers’ liking as the 3x10 speed shifting. One thing they had wished for though was better protection from spray and dirt for the shifting cables which are routed under the bottom bracket shell. The hydraulic dis brakes with 180mm rotor diameter in front and 160mm at the rear provided secure stopping, the 100mm travel fork offered additional control and comfort to the hardtail.
Conclusion: The Mira is a versatile ladies’ hardtail that offers a lot of bike for money.
