At “4 stage Mountain Bike Race“ of Club La Santa on Lanzarote Soeren Nissen won two stages, but could nevertheless not repeat last year's victory. A defective tire on the second stage set him back the decisive five minutes behind overall winner Karl Platt. The Danish Marathon Champion finished his season opening on sixth place overall on his STEVENS Sonora SL, Karl Platt won ahead of Juan Pedro Trujillo Hernandez and Pedro Romero Ocampo from Spain.
Nissen: “The race started just perfect with a stage win, I was one minute ahead of Karl Platt and very confident.“
Even after the puncture on stage two – “I lost six precious minutes“ – and with two tough stages ahead of him he remained confident. “On stage three, a time trial of 21 kilometers, I gave everything I had – maybe too much.“ Nissen won and gained half a minute on Platt.
On the final stage Nissen and Platt rode together in the lead for a long time. “I was just about to attack when I suffered another puncture. But even if I did not win the race the two stage wins show that I am in good trim three weeks before Andalusia Bike Race already“, said Nissen announcing his next race at the same time.
