Top result for Laurens Sweeck at the World Cup in Dublin

Round 5 of the UCI Cyclocross World Cup was held last weekend in Dublin, Ireland. Difficult track conditions demanded everything from the participants.

In the Elite Men's race, the reigning overall World Cup winner Laurens Sweeck (Crelan-Correndon) rode to a good second place, just two seconds behind.

A group of favourites quickly formed at the start of the race and stayed close together until Thibau Nys was able to pull away slightly at the start of the third lap. However, the chasing group, including Laurens Sweeck and his team-mate Joran Wyseure, quickly caught up again.

Around the halfway point of the race, Eli Iserbyt, Pim Ronhaar and Laurens Sweeck managed to pull away from the field. In the final phase, Ronhaar picked up the pace again and only Laurens was able to keep up. However, Pim Ronhaar came out on top in the final sprint. Laurens Sweeck finished the race two seconds behind in second place, securing valuable World Cup points.

In the U23 men's race, it was Laurens' team-mate Emiel Verstrynge who also rode to a good 2nd place.
