Ricarda Lisk came in 2nd in the Beijing International Triathlon. She completed the Olympic Distance in 2 hrs 11 min 25 sec behind Ashleigh Gentle (Australia, 2:08:12) and in front of Laura Bennett (USA, 2:13:35).
During the swimming stage in the Garden Expo Lake, located at the park of the same name, the field already was quite stretched out. Ricarda Lisk swam alongside later winner Ashleigh Gentle. In the cycling stage Lisk pursued the competition on her STEVENS Super Trofeo. Meanwhile, Gentle went to 1st position in the cycling stage by a significant margin, that she was able to defend until the finish.
The fight for further podium placings during the cycling and running stage was a more thrilling one: Ricarda Lisk reached the second transition zone at the same time as Laura Bennett and Carolina Routier, whom she both had caught up with in the middle of the very hilly 40 km course.
Lisk could well make use of her power in the 10 km running stage and left the competition behind on a very scenic course through the park that featured many small trails, lots of curves and long set of stairs with 600 steps.
”After I had a look at the course, which was harder, more hilly and technically more challenging and also included a many sets of long stairs, I knew I was good for a podium placing – I took the chance and made the best out of it.”, said a very pleased Ricarda Lisk at the finish. ”It was simply amazing!”
