Opening victories for Adams and van der Heijden

The Kleeberg Cross heralded the start of the Dutch cross season last weekend. With Jens Adams and Inge van der Heijden, the STEVENS Super Prestige took first place twice.

The 2.6-kilometre lap around the grounds of the local football club RKMVC consisted largely of grassy sections and forest paths, but also offered selective sections with the usual sand section. The biggest challenge was certainly the ‘wet section’, where the athletes sometimes found themselves in knee-deep mud.

In the elite men's race, Belgian Jens Adams (Athletes for Hope) was the favourite. On his STEVENS Super Prestige he beat his compatriot and last year's winner Ward Huybs by three seconds. Danny van Lierop from the Netherlands finished just under a minute behind.

In the elite women's race, Dutch rider Inge van der Heijden (Crelan-Corendon) prevailed over her compatriot Aniek van Alphen in a similarly close race. In the end, Inge crossed the finish line four seconds ahead of Aniek. Leonie Bentveld (Netherlands) secured the last place on the podium.
