STEVENS new e-fully E-Sledge+ ES was very much liked by the testers of ElektroRad magazine. This was not only - but to a great extend - due to the also new Shimano Steps E8000 motor. In ”boost mode” the E-Sledge+ ES felt like it was flying up the hill.
The intelligent motor management prevented the wheels from slippage as well as the 2.8” wide tires, which provided the E-Sledge+ ES with a huge helping of traction resulting in secure cornering and vast amounts of fun – even in rough terrain, since ”with 160mm of travel in the front and 150mm at the rear wheel the chassis virtually can take anything,” the editors said. In addition it was very agile with a very good overall set-up.
The motor would ”deliver its 70Nm (51.5ft-lb) maximum torque just when you really need it: When clearing an obstacle or when accelerating uphill,” the testers said. Their verdict about the electric motor: ”The Shimano 8000 motor is simply impressive.”
Thanks to the combination of tires, motor and perfectly set-up chassis the E-Sledge would climb the steepest slopes with utmost ease. This is complimented by the electronic Di2 shifting from Shimano which would deliver fast and secure change gears.
”Ripping Corners”
Tightly twitching trails is exactly what the E-Sledge+ ES is made for: ”At 436mm of length the chain stays are extremely short and totally stand for agility.” This design is made possible by the forward-facing motor which also hugs the frame in an eye-pleasing manner.
Conclusion: The Shimano 8000 motor’s dynamics are simply impressive. The very agile chassis was very much to our liking uphill as well as downhill and is a top contender in the e-all-mountain league.
