Two technical advancements turned the STEVENS E-Agnello+ into more than the sum of its parts: The powerful pedelec motor – Bosch Performance CX – and the 2.8” wide tires.

The motor, which supports pedalling up to a speed of 25kph (15mph), extends trips to until then unimagined distances and gets you up much longer and steeper hills. The wide tires offered so far unknown traction and therefore more security and fun.

The relatively high weight of the tires is well taken care of by the motor. At the same time their additional grip made sense in order to make full use of the motor’s power. ”The E-Agnello+ rolls on 2.8” wide Plus tires (…).This neutralizes a possible lack in ride performance caused by the e-drive’s additional weight compared to a ’normal’ hardtail.”

The Bosch Performance CX motor provided ”one of the highest torques on the market.” In its lowest level of support ”eco” the rider was always aware of the motor’s power like e.g. in flat singletrail sections.” In particularly steep climbs ”sport mode” (third level of support) was sufficient, yet in ”power mode” (fourth and highest level) climbing was expectedly even faster.

In addition to the quite comfortable seating position the wide tires offered another plus in ride comfort. ”In rippled sections the fat Plus tires provided great cushioning, on well-ridden trails the E-Agnello+ just flies over the turf.” In singletrails the tires delivered just enough grip, to let the hardtail rolling on nimble 27.5” wheels make the most of its agility.

All in all the E-Agnello+ got all test riders excited with ”uphill flow thanks to CX power”. Just as convincing was the bike being fully spec’d with Shimano XT components.
