KED STEVENS Racing Team concludes Cycling Federal League 2014 with two 3rd places. In the team classification as well as in the individual classification with Heinrich Berger, the U23 team from Berlin finished on the podium. Emanuel Buchmann from team Rad-Net Rose took the overall individual title, Team Heizomat from Bavaria won the team competition.
Rad Bundesliga (German Federal Cycling League) season 2014 ended with a race weekend in and near Berlin: On Saturday the athletes had to race a 160 km (100 mls) circuit in Berlin’s Wannsee quarter. On Sunday this event was followed by an individual time trial taking place at the yet to be opened new Berlin airport.
Heinrich Berger Leading Series After Second-to-last Race
In the Saturday race Heinrich Berger managed to reach the leader position in the League’s general classification. With a well-planned sprint lead-out by Ole Quast he finished 8th in the race. This was enough to claim 1st place in the series, since then-leader Emanuel Buchmann only came in 16th. Quast as best rider of KED-STEVENS finished 7th.
In the single-race team classification the Berlin-based team secured 4th place and therefore was able to keep 2nd in the overall ranking. ”We could have finished 2nd, but we lacked a third rider at the front.”, Ole Quast said right after the race. His team mate Philipp Zwingenberger crashed close to the finish and had to be rushed to the hospital with a broken collar bone. STEVENS says: Get Well, Soon!
”Most of the time he had good control of the race, and we even had one rider in the brake-away group.”, said Quast. Near the end the race became very chaotic with many crashes. Wet foliage on the road had made the course very slippery. Team Stölting was the power house of the day by occupying all three podium places.
New Berlin Airport Opened For ITT
On the new, still unfinished Berlin airport, which had been especially opened to hold the individual time trial, 21-year old Emanuel Buchmann came in third to win 727 points and regain 1st place in the League’s GC. Heinrich Berger placed 16th to win 640 points altogether. Second Place went to Christopher Hatz (Team Bergstrasse). Winner on the 20.8 km (13 mls) course was German ITT Champion Nils Politt from Team Stölting.
In the team competition which was made difficult by wind and hail storms, Team KED-STEVENS reached 6th place. The final GC was won by Team Heizomat from Bavaria in front of rad-net Rose in 2nd and KED-STEVENS 3rd.
