STEVENS’ sporty roots do also show in the E-Lavena 500. That is one of editors’ first statements about the bike from their test report in ElektroRad’s January 2017 edition. The ”sophisticated touring bike for daily fun on the road” showed sportiness with its well-balanced, slightly bent-forward seating position as well as with its ride behavior which was enhanced by the good specs.

Well Chosen Parts
Shimano’s 10-speed shifting worked just as well as the disc brakes: ”Even when emergency braking at 52kph (32mph) the Stevens received top marks.” The Active Line motor may be the ”smallest” motor made by Bosch, yet ”its power delivery should be more than enough to handle the rigors of fast-ridden bike tours (with not too much luggage). The Suntour air suspension fork always remains stiff without brake stuttering.

Along with the ”perfectly crafted” aluminium frame and ”reasonably routed cables” it added to the sporty set-up. Adjusting the fork to rider weight – often not possible in this pedelec price category – would indeed pay off. ”The 63mm of travel soften rough downhill trails very well and in an agile fashion. Big bumps won’t reach the handlebar.”

A Swift Ride
The bike’s ride characteristics were quite convincing altogether: ”Even in fast corners the E-Lavena is easy to steer without getting nervous.” Seating position, comfort and ergonomics are just how they should be. Going uphill the Bosch Active Line motor would supply adequate support.

Conclusion:
The Stevens E-Lavena 500 is a mature bike for touring with luggage. Without cargo it’s a delightfully sporty bike for daily fun on the road – but also unpaved trails. All in all it’s a well-designed bike that we liked really much.
