Save the best for last: After many good race results, Ricarda Lisk took her first podium in an Ironman 70.3 race (1.9 km swim, 90 km bike, 21 km run) at the event in Los Cabos.
She finished in 4:36:28 hours, right after Magali Tisseyere (4:24:28 hours) from Canada and Carrie Lester (4:24:28 hours) from Australia.
Ricarda Lisk already laid the foundations to her overall success during the swim leg in Palmilla bay. She was able to swim with the leading group right from the start and exited the water after 28:49 minutes.
The fastest female bikers pushed the speed from the very beginning. Ricarda Lisk rather focused on finding her own pace on her STEVENS Super Trofeo and on keeping the gap between herself and the leading ladies as small as possible. Magali Tissyere secured her lead, behind her positions changed constantly, however. Lisk remained in the top 5 during the whole bike leg and was the fourth to reach second transition after 2:37:20 hours. Ricarda Lisk on the bike leg: „Today I had the feeling that all the extra hours on the bike finally paid. On the flat I had to fight hard not to lose contact, but uphill I could easily distance the girls. Of course it was of great advantage today that I always had my competitors in view and was not alone on the course.”
In the final half marathon Ricarda Lisk only looked ahead. She had already proved her excellent running form shortly before flying to Mexico. Already after the first two kilometers, she caught Melanie McQuaid who had been on third place up to then and secured the podium. Unlike many other athletes, the heat did not cause Ricarda any problems, she ran the second fastest half marathon (1:27:27 hours).
"I am so happy with my first podium at an Ironman 70.3 race – and really exhausted. I was in the front part of the field already from the start, I had to fight a little in the swim leg, though. The bike leg was really exhausting, but the half marathon was smooth. I got an extra kick out of overtaking the up to then third-placed athlete, as I knew then that the podium was mine. I just had to focus on drinking enough, as it was really hot”, said Ricarda Lisk who is going to take an off-season break before planning next season.
