”Aero frame plus disc brakes – this has never been before. ” says German magazine RoadBIKE about the new STEVENS Arcalis Disc, that boasts just this combination of streamlined frame and comfort specs.
RoadBIKE dedicated a single bike test to this new concept and concluded that it makes sense. ”Arcalis is a fast tourer that dispenses with typical extremes in frame geometry associated with aero road bikes: the top tube is not too long, the head tube not too short, making your seating position suitable for long distances.” This is contributed by a sportive saddle height and saddle-handlebar-distance which is not as excessive as with many aero road bikes.
Also the Arcalis behaves calm and provides exceptional directional stability compared to most bikes in this category, yet its steering is fast and precise: ”Head tube angle and fork rake are of the racy kind”, states RoadBIKE and concludes: ”In the end the Arcalis performs as a fast long distance runner – accordingly STEVENS promises modern vertical compliance.”
Specs – Dream Combination
Damping is assisted by standard-equipment 25 mm wide tires and a carbon seat post. ”Dream specs” is what the testers call the combination of disc brakes and electronic shifting: ”powerful hydraulic discs with perfect modulation under any circumstances” fits perfectly into the long-distance aero concept. Together with the electronic Dura Ace this makes up a true dream combination.
