Most obvious attribute: ”After riding only a few hundred meters the Stevens turned out to be ”the Rocket” of the test”, Radtouren begins their description of the STEVENS E-Triton Luxe.
In general the editors were very fond of the tested bikes from the medium to premium price range between 2,600 and 7,000 Euros: ”They help you getting fit, they guide you along scenic routes and after 80km (50mls) the battery still is far from empty – modern pedelecs are very capable. The eight medium to premium class models taking part in the test proved to be technically mature.”
According to Radtouren touring pedelecs should have a maximum load capacity of 130kg (287lbs) and offer safe handling in general and especially when riding with cargo. Range is also important and shifting and motor management should work harmoniously.
The E-Triton reaches the maximum supported speed of 25kph (15mph) in the (medium) touring mode. The positive aspect about that: ”Above that speed the bike still runs very easily.”
The editors explain the reason for that to be the interaction of the powerful Bosch Performance motor, fast-running tires, ”very low” weight (22.4kg/50lbs in size 55) and STEVENS’ typically more forward seating position. Riding with cargo ”can’t diminish the Triton’s superb handling”. The maximum legal weight of 140kg (309lbs) allows making full use of the pannier rack’s capacity of 25kg (55lbs). Subtracting 25kg for cargo and 22.4kg for the bike, 92kg (203lbs) remain for the rider.
Safe handling was another point to convince the editors: ”the bike with its meticulously crafted alloy frame combined with thru-axles and sticky tires seems to be glued to the tarmac which makes it really fun to ride.”
The shifting is precise, the brakes are powerful and many further details are first-class: ”Many details are just a little bit better than with other bikes, be it the rear light integrated into the fender or the wider rims” or the Nyon sat-nav which is part of the ”luxe” package that is part of the bike’s name.
This is what the editors say about the Bosch Performance motor and the 500Wh Powerpack battery: ”Powerful e-drive that offers the subjectively best ride quality. The fast engagement of the motor is very convincing – a major advantage when starting to ride.” Power is evenly distributed over any level of speed.” The Nyon on-board computer [Link] sets a benchmark in ergonomics and readability.
Conclusion: ”Looking for a touring pedelec and fun machine? Look no further than the STEVENS that offers best of both worlds.”
