In its April 2016 edition, German RoadBIKE magazine tested carbon bestsellers around 3,000 Euros. The test started with a statement: ”Everything above that is pure luxury!” And: ”With all these bikes you can win races and cross the Alps.”
Winner Qualities
The STEVENS Xenon Di2, tested with a straight A (”very good”), has already given proof of its winner qualities: Last season Victor de la Parte of Team Vorarlberg won the Tour of Austria (UCI 2.HC, highest category for non-Grand Tour stage races) on this bike. Nils Politt of Team Stölting won the German U-23 Championship and team mate Lennard Kämna won the German KOM Championships plus the overall classification in the German Cycling League. Last but not least the women’s team maxx-Solar dominated the female GCL aboard their Xenons.
Convincing on the Road and on Paper
The ”permanent resident” of price category tests, again took the podium in this 20-bike competition. It is the third lightest bike available from non-online stores featuring the second lightest wheel set (DT Swiss R20). Though the electronic Shimano Ultegra Di2 components are also light, the major contributor to the low overall weight is the frame, which came in fourth lightest at 963 grams (size 58cm). That’s it with the theory.
On the road the frame set excelled with ”high stiffness and well-balanced character”. The rear triangle features a race-oriented design which offers even better flex when combined with a carbon seat post. But: ”With exceptional directional stability, perfectly reliable handling and not too stretched-out and comfortable riding position this multitalent convinced almost everybody.”
Conclusion:
The perfect multitalent scores with secure handling, powerful acceleration and comfortable riding position. The rear could be a little less harsh of a ride.
