A classic, race-like frame geometry and an agile handling – attributes of many of STEVENS road bikes and that, of course, can be said about the new Izoard Pro Disc, too, says RennRad in its 6.2019 edition. Yet, this new all-rounder with hydraulic disc brakes focusses primarily on comfort and long-distance capabilities. One of the first things acknowledged by the testers was the frame’s high stiffness. The beefy bottom bracket ensured direct power transfer. The carbon fork combined with a tapered steerer tube contributed to the direct steering and great directional stability.
Seating position on the Izoard Pro Disc was a little more stretched-out than on other marathon bikes, according to the editors. This seating position was influenced by the offset carbon seatpost. But it first and foremost it added significant comfort, supported by the frame design: “the thin inward-curved seatstays provided noticeable compliance. They also offered clearance for 28 mm wide tires that can be ridden with lower pressure for more comfort.”
The semi-compact Shimano Ultegra drivetrain with 52/36 teeth chainrings at the cranks “was just enough on long, steep climbs because there was a large 32 teeth cog on the cassette.” In addition the Ultegra Disc brakes delivered convincing braking performance even in wet conditions: “They were always easy to modulate and offered lots of power.” The well-chosen specs were complemented by robust, easy-rolling Fulcrum wheels. The sum of specs and ride quality in comparison to the price resulted in a Price-Performance-Tip by the RennRad editors.
Conclusion: “The STEVENS Izoard Pro Disc offers agility and a comfortable ride combined with direct handling and race-like seating position. Weight is alright, just as the choice of specs. Price-performance ratio is more than fair.”
