It goes well for Sanne Cant, Enertherm-BKCP, in the Superprestige race series. She won for the second time this season at the second race in Zonhoven, Belgium, despite crashing in the deep sands of Zonhoven on the penultimate round. She had to catch up with Nikki Harris and then get rid of her again, in order to avoid a spurt. The European and Belgian Champion managed to do so without any apparent difficulties. Nikki Harris (GB) scored second, seven seconds behind Cant, Belgian Jolien Verschueren scored third one minute after the leading duo.
“It really was not my intention to crash“, Cant said laughing. “Shortly before the downhill section the lanes were really deep, if you missed the right lane, it was risky there.“ Cant said she did not want to catch Harris not matter what.
She did well at her own speed on STEVENS Super Prestige. “When the spectators cheered increasingly louder I knew that I was coming closer.“ Cant deliberately decided against a second race start that weekend. “Winter is still long and I want to pace myself even better this season.“
Complete Podium for Juniors of Enertherm-BKCP
Cant's junior team colleagues also did very well. Jens Dekker finished first, 25 and 51 seconds ahead of Jappe Jaspers and Victor Vandebosch, thereby clinching the triple triumph on STEVENS Super Prestige for their team. Jaspers said after the race: “I was stronger in Valkenberg last week, now Jens did better.“ The battle between the teammates was decided in a sandy running section of the course. Jaspers: “He put some pressure on me and when I made a small mistake the race was decided. There will be some more exciting battles between us.“
Three Top Ten Positions in Men's Elite Race
In the men's Elite race David van der Poel, BKCP-Corendon, did feel „really well again for the first time after a long time.“ He had been stopped by an infection and his right upper leg had caused him muscular problems. Zonhoven was some kind of liberation, he finished seventh.
The only rider on STEVENS Super Prestige faster than him was Laurens Sweeck of ERA-Murprotec on sixth place, despite a not so perfect start and a crash in front of him slowing him down. From position 15 he went on a long catch up race. Sweecks teammate Julien Taramarcaz scored eighth and proved that he is in good shape. Diether Sweeck on eleventh place completed the good result of ERA-Murprotec. Wout van Aert was in excellent shape and won again, Rob Peeters and Kevin Pauwels scored second and third.
Daan Hoeyberghs of BKCP finished third in the U23 junior race in Zonhoven and, due to his victory at the first race, now shares the first place with Eli Iserbyt in the overall results. “I could have done even better, but I had lost my rhythm on last round's running passages.“
