The geometry of STEVENS Jura ES is a blueprint for a modern, versatile, balanced trailbike, writes MountainBIKE, and the ride just feels like it, too: “Sporty and fast due to the slightly stretched seating position and the not too heavy weight, high directional stability even on wild rides due to its flat steering angle and long wheelbase, always balanced, easy to handle.”
The marathon fully offered a performance suitable for “the majority of mountainbikers” with its 120 mm of spring travel, the editors write and point out: “The 'classic' bike tour on moderate paths, long gravel uphills and through beautiful landscapes is absolutely sufficient to escape from everyday routine really fast.”
Touring-/marathon fullys in the price category of 3,000 euros were made for this: “A mountainbike which ideally combines efficiency and convenience uphill and riding safety and fun downhill as well as durability and carefreeness.” The spring travel was a suitable compromise between riding demands and weight – more spring travel also meant more weight.
The bicycle chassis with fork and suspension made by Fox perfectly complemented the character of Jura ES: “The fork travels and dampens immaculately, the four pivot suspension system at the rear sensitively scans the trail, is neutral uphill without being stingy when it comes to traction, and is discreet in a positive way on downhills.”
A touring biker's dream
The specs were “a touring biker's dream” with an “impeccable XT drive” from lever to sprocket set, which can be expected in this price category, hydraulic XT brakes by Shimano with 180 mm discs at front and rear, DT Swiss wheels, Nobby Nic tires with rim protection are listed by the editors. A lowerable seatpost was a sensible tuning tip, however.
STEVENS-Tipp: a Vario-seatpost with 30,9 mm diameter is easy to retrofit. The cables are easy to mount inside the frame. Ask your STEVENS-dealer for the right top-caps.
Conclusion:
“With Jura ES STEVENS assembled a very successful symbiosis of fast touring fully and smooth trail rocket – top-notch chassis included. Also the specs give hardly any reason to criticize.”
STEVENS size split: The STEVENS Jura ES is available at STEVENS specialist dealers in various frame-sizes and with two wheelsizes. MountainBIKE tested STEVENS Jura ES with 27.5” wheels and attributes to it more agility, temperament and delightfully spinning wheels. Whether the 29” or 27.5” wheels are the better choice, partly is a question of the rider's size, partly a question of personal preference. This is why STEVENS Jura ES is available in wheel sizes 16”, 18” and 20”, with 27.5” wheels as well as a 29er in sizes 18”, 20” and 22”.
With the overlapping wheel sizes of 18” and 20” mountainbikers have the opportunity to choose between an agile and versatile bike for riding single trails or a smooth ride with superior rolling abilities.
