The STEVENS Ventoux Disc not only is the lightest bike in a test of 15, it also ”performs convincingly on the road – right from the start and under all conditions”, says Roadbike in a test of 15 long-distance road bikes with hydraulic disc brakes, featured in their latest 3/2015 issue.
Most convincing were the ”great stiffness and decent vertical compliance”. In addition the disc tourer offers a sportive lay-out: ”The rider is positioned a little stretched-out, not too upright, the front wheel follows your steering very directly thanks to a short fork rake and steep headtube angle.”
That way the Ventoux persuaded granfondo and ambitious long-distance riders right away. Shimano’s hydraulic disc brakes proved to be very comfortable. Hydraulic disc brakes are already well-established in touring road bikes, says Roadbike.
Constantly high brake power in any weather on the one hand and effortless yet precise modulation on the other mean decisive advantages: ”No rim brake performs that reliably powerful and most of all not with such perfect modulation.” While disc brakes, like on the mountain bike, need a little breaking-in*, Roadbike offers useful tips for this process.
The editors also point out the very light frame set, the comfortable, yet sporty set-up and useful specs. The tested Ventoux Disc Custom is specced with Shimano BR-RS785 hydraulic disc brakes and Shimano Ultegra Di2 electronic 11-speed shifting.
Conclusion:
”The STEVENS scores best marks for the sensationally light and well-constructed frame, the great specs and its willful spirit.”
The STEVENS Ventoux Disc as tested, specced with Shimano Ultegra Disc Di2 is available for 3,962 Euros. Customizable with five gruppos and four choices of wheelsets in the STEVENS Custom-Program prices start at 2,699 Euros. Frameset is available for 1,599 Euros.
