The testers were not only impressed by the sophisticated specification with Pinion C1.12 12-speed gearbox and Gates CDX carbon belt. The low weight and the associated manoeuvrability also ensured high scores in the individual disciplines.
At 14.6 kilograms, the C12 is the second lightest bike in the test. This is partly due to its lightweight, end-reinforced and therefore particularly robust aluminium frame. It offers classic mounting eyelets for accessories and the front fork is also characterised by practical mounting points for bikepacking accessories such as lowriders and the like. This turns the C12 into a real touring bike with long-distance qualities in no time at all.
The frame geometry of the C12 is perfect for long tours as well as for use in the city, giving the bike a balanced, sporty riding behaviour according to the test editorial team. "The riding position can be described as relaxed and slightly sporty, also suitable for long distances", according to RADTouren magazine.
But it's not just the finely tuned frame that makes the bike feel light on the scales and easy to ride. The exclusive Pinion C1.12 gearbox with 12 gears and a wide gear range also keeps the overall weight of the bike low thanks to the lightweight magnesium housing. In addition, the Pinion gearbox is maintenance-friendly and optimally protected against dirt thanks to its encapsulated design.
Another guarantee for many kilometres of worry-free riding: the Gates CDX carbon belt drive. It not only ensures a unique riding experience, but also particularly quiet forward drive. Since the belt, unlike chain drives, is not lubricated, it hardly attracts dust and dirt. This minimises cleaning and maintenance work, even when often riding in bad weather.
Reliable stopping is provided by high-quality Shimano Deore brakes with a 180 millimetre brake disc at the front and a 160 millimetre version at the rear. The stoppers convinced the testers in all weather conditions, as they ensure that "the C12 comes to a precise stop even on wet roads".
The low overall weight of the trekking premium bike offers plenty of room for additional load, and the bike "carries the luggage effortlessly over the test track" of the RADTouren magazine.
The STEVENS C12 scored top marks in the areas of riding performance, specification and workmanship in particular and received the second-best overall score in the test from the RADTouren test editorial team with an excellent 1.4.
