“Sporty riding is instilled in the E-Scope +, but the high riding comfort also makes it fit for relaxed cruising“, editors of ADFC Radwelt summarized in their recently published test in issue 2.2017.
Apparently this matches the characteristics of e-mountain bikes: “E-mountain biking is a discipline of its own, with special demands regarding riding skills and planning the tour. You can use it to ride with less effort, but also go to your limits ...“, reads the editors’ interim conclusion.
The sporty riding characteristics of E-Scope + stem from its geometry with rather short chain stays which could be implemented because of the motor’s integration into the down tube’s front.
The same goes for the 120 mm suspension fork that combines rides in demanding terrain with riding comfort. But also the tires provide for a lot of grip and therefore joy of riding. At the same time they provided great riding safety – and comfort. The electric motor made up for the sluggishness that is typical for these kind of bikes due to their weighing a little more.
Shimano’s new Steps motor appeared to be dynamic, “the highest support level is almost too much“, testers said who furthermore noted that the comparatively low weight of the bike – STEVENS E-Scope + was the lightest bike in the test field – saved battery power which in turn made long rides possible. Radwelt: “... while STEVENS as the most lightweight bike had still a lot of buffer left.“
Changing gears worked smoothly and due to Shimano’s characteristic shift levers with a lot of control also in demanding terrain, “uphill and in the plain you don’t even need the motor’s support up to 25 km/h to go really fast, downhill the wide handlebar and the strong brakes contribute to controlling the inherently slightly spongy tires.“
Conclusion: Sporty riding is instilled in the E-Scope +, but the high riding comfort also makes it fit for relaxed cruising. The motor appears very dynamic and the good battery life makes long rides possible, too.
