"Sunday was the 4th race in the Central Coast CX Series in Manzanita Park. This course is not super technical, but does have some loose, gravel and sandy turns as well as 2 sections of low speed turns on a baseball diamond. There is always some climbing on this course, but this year the longest climb was broken up into 2 separate sections. Finish is an uphill pavement stretch that often sees some sprint finishes.
I actually had a decent start for a change and got the hole shot! There were a few technical sections early on, so once I got the lead, I decided to try to keep it. Caroline Dezendorf (Marin Bikes) was on my wheel for most of the first lap. I tried to accelerate hard out of the turns and on the climbs. I gapped her a little going up the climb starting lap 2, but she clawed her way back up to me and we had a good lead on the rest of the field.
Lap 2 I went hard, and bit by bit, I started to lose Caroline. I had a few sec. on her by lap 3 and my lead grew from there to 42 sec. by the finish. Ellen Sherril (Voler/Rock Lobster) took 3rd not too far behind Caroline."
