The editors of Bike & Travel Magazine found nothing much to complain about the STEVENS Sovereign. Except for a minor dislike –”somewhat too long” cables for the fork lockout and front brake –the testers only had positive words about the noble travel bike. The name Sovereign therefore was well chosen.
When the suspension fork was fully locked-out the Sovereign was very stiff and offered ”very direct steering”. With fully activated suspension it excels with wrist-friendly comfort. The 64cm wide handlebar provided extra control and security.
Direct Power Transfer And Reliable Shifting
The editors were impressed by the practically maintenance-free Gates belt drive which provided a ”more direct power transfer” compared to chains. Changing gears was always flawless due to the Rohloff gear hub and the hydraulic disc brakes ”work reliably and with precise modulation.”
Though the editors were not too fond the fact that the pannier rack’s maximum load was limited to 25kg (55lbs) and that of the whole bike to 130kg (287lbs) wasn’t perfect for a travel bike, they came to this …
… Conclusion: The Sovereign spoils its rider with great comfort, well-proven technology and lots of fun. Those who are looking for a bike that performs well, no matter if it’s commuting, shopping for groceries, riding through the woods or travelling with luggage, will be very happy with the Sovereign for a long time.
