Nicolas Baldo rode to his first season win in the 70th edition of the race Paris-Mantes en Yvelines (UCI 2.2.). Shortly before the finish he was able to break away from the head of the race and cross the finish line first in a solo effort aboard his STEVENS Xenon.
During the entire 172 km (107ml) race with changing weather including wind, sunshine and rain, Team Vorarlberg with riders Patrick Jäger, Christoph Springer, Clément Koretzky and Nicolas Winter showed itself at the front and had riders present in break-away groups.
After having presented himself strongly in break-away groups at Paris-Camembert and Tour du Finistère, Nicolas Baldo treated himself with this win. He was in a head group that was able to distance itself from the pack. In the final heavy climb he attacked and was gone together with another rider. In pouring rain he also dropped his last remaining opponent and eventually won with a 17 seconds lead in front of Erwann Corbel and Romain Barroso. In addition Baldo’s teammate Victor de la Parte won the KOM classification.
The other half of Team Vorarlberg, competing in the Austrian State of Burgenland, was almost as successful as their teammates riding in France. Grischa Janorschke came in second from a first-class field in the Criterium in Horitschon behind Slovenian Jan Tratnik. It was only Janorschke’s third race of the season after he had recovered from an injury. Grischa Janorschke had collected lots of points in the intermediary sprints and was able to stay clear from crashes. He was supported by his young teammates Daniel Paulus and Lukas Meier, who came in place 9 and 14 respectively.
