Sören Nissen won the Erbeskopfmarathon in Thalfang despite tough competition. The race in the German Hunsrueck region covering 110 kilometers and 3,050 meters in altitude began quite badly, however, for the Danish Marathon Champion on his STEVENS Sonora SL.
20 kilometers into the race, he suffered a flat back tyre, which made him lose eight minutes on the leading rider, Mathias Frohn. “After having repaired the tyre I first had some difficulties finding my motivation”, said Nissen. Therefore he first focused on finding his own race speed. “After a while I found my rhythm and was able to catch up on the leader.” Nissen mobilized all of his energy, rode to the front and was able to keep up this high speed until he crossed the finish line.
Sören Nissen took first place, followed by Mathias Frohn, Patrick de Laat from the Netherlands, Frank Dressler-Lehnhof and the Dutch Marathon Champion Bram Rood.
“The race was a good preparation for the upcoming events”, says Nissen. He will be taking part at Sigma Sport Marathon in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, „Leadville 100 MTB Race“ in the US and „Birkebeinrittet“ in Norway for example.
