Gold on black: For their 2.2019 issue, the editors of ElektroRad magazine started with evaluating the E-Lavena PT5’s looks. For once, there is the low-key STEVENS logo on the black downtube that houses the 500 Wh PowerTube battery from Bosch. The livery and integrated battery were just a few of the details to the testers’ liking, and they found more: the rather sports-oriented seating position and the high quality SR Suntour suspension that was unusual in this price category.
The testers also had positive words about the pannier rack that features a strut running beneath the mud guard for higher lateral stiffness and an additional set of attachment points for panniers – offering better handling with pannier positioned lower on the rack. They also praised the frame lock (very convenient for commuters) as well as the complete Shimano Deore group – true and trusted for years.
Last but not least: The diamond frame features an additional strut between seat tube and downtube above the Bosch Performance line motor “that makes carrying the bike so much easier”. The motor pushed the E-Lavena PT5 forward with authority but excelled with smooth, homogeneous power output.” Yet, what stood out the most: “When the motor is switched off, either on demand by the rider or because the speed limit for motor support has been reached, the Stevens is a surprisingly nimble ride.” The SR Suntour air suspension fork and Schwalbe Marathon tires provided additional comfort.
Its overall design makes it rather suitable for riding on paved roads. But these rides may well last a little longer because: “Geometry, directional stability and stiff frame all ask for longer distances. Extended trips – plus luggage, if you like – is where this bike feels at home.” Commuters may also appreciate this sophisticated concept. Thanks to this, the bike is given a “very good” (A+) leading to the conclusion:
“The Stevens E-Lavena PT5 is an outstanding touring bike for paved roads and makes the daily commute as well as extended trips a breeze.”
