Beate Zanner is the new new German Mountain Champion. The 32 year old rider of team maxx-Solar Cycling won the 102km (63mls) race in Schweinlang in the Allgäu-Region of Bavaria/Germany aboard her STEVENS Xenon and succeeds Lisa Brennauer who isochronically started in the Tour of Britain.
The decision was made in the final 1.6km (1ml) climb up Zielberg. Sometime before Zanner had broken away from the field together with another 16 riders in the ninth of eleven laps. In the final climb she was able to defeat Daniela Gass and Clara Kloppenburg. The win of Zanner, who hails from Gera, was supported by her whole team. In the third lap she suffered a mechanical but was guided back into the field by Lisa Heckmann.
Her team mate Theres Klein wrote: ”Team work was continued by Jessica Lambracht increasing racing speed in the final lap before the climb to prevent our competitors from attacking. I took over that tempo increase so Beate could find the right position to sprint 200 meters before the finish.”
After the race Beate Zanner said: ”Everybody knew that maxx-solar is the strongest team. So everybody was watching us. I am happy that in the end everything worked out so well, that we lived up to the expectations and took the title.” Additionally, Franziska Banzer, Tatjana Paller und Jessica Lambracht placed themselves well in the forward ranks which contributed in maxx-solar keeping its first place in the Cycling Bundesliga team classification, which this race was part of. Also Franziska Banzer won the Juniors’ category.
Team leads Rad-Bundesliga ranking
In the Bundesliga’s overall classification Zanner now is second behind team mate Hanka Kupfernagel, who had to cancel her participation just shortly before the race due to a heavy cold. Before the start her team mates had promised her: ”Hanka, we will win the title for you. We won’t let go,” said Beate Zanner.
