Trail bikes with 120 to 130mm of travel front and rear are made for maximum fun when touring all kinds of trails. This is how BIKE describes five fullies in the 3,000 Euros price range having been tested in BIKE’s current October 2016 issue.
The new STEVENS Jura Carbon which marks the entry level for the new Jura Carbon series excelled in the test field with the lowest frame weight and outstanding ride characteristics. Like its aluminium counterpart the STEVENS Jura ES this 29er with longer wheelbase is designed for directional stability.
Yet, ”the rider has a better position ’within’ the bike due to a shorter reach and a 6cm stem.” For more downhill oriented riding the editors recommended ”more powerful” tires and a dropper post, which can be retrofitted even with internally routed cables.
Fast Climber With The Lowest Weight
Going uphill the Jura Carbon totally scored: ”When climbing the Jura cannot hide its marathon genes. It speeds away with the help of fast-rolling Rocket Ron tires and a drivetrain-neutral chassis.” For sprinting the fork can be locked-out from the handlebar.
The Jura Carbon is equipped with Shimano Deore disc brakes (180/180mm), DT Swiss wheels shod in 2.25” wide Schwalbe Rocket Ron Evo Pace Star tires, Shimano SLX/XT drive train and Rock Shox Reba fork plus Monarch rear shock.
Conclusion: Great bike for extended touring. Solid specs, calm geometry and comfortable seating position.
The STEVENS Jura Carbon is available as a 29er in 18, 20 and 22in for 3,000 Euros. In size 16in it rolls on 27.5” wheels for better handling. The entry level model has an aluminium rear triangle. The new Jura Carbon Series also includes the Jura Carbon ES with Shimano XT group and carbon rear triangle, the Jura Carbon ES Di2 with the new electronic XT group and the top model Jura Carbon Team.
