Solid, extensively customisable and fairly priced: the Arcalis convinced the TOUR testers across the board.
The Arcalis aero bike has already achieved very good results in several tests in the past. This time too, the aero bike from the STEVENS Custom Bikes configurator has lived up to the praise. The 209 watts of air resistance measured by TOUR in the wind tunnel at 45 km/h is still an outstanding value, with which it can not only keep up with the World Tour machines.
The Arcalis, on the other hand, has managed the balancing act of low air resistance and low weight well: ‘The 2024 carefully renovated edition of the model has become slightly lighter on the frame. [...] In the most important disciplines of weight and aerodynamics, the Arcalis performs well, especially considering the fair price,’ says TOUR magazine, which gives the bike excellent marks in the areas of acceleration, aerodynamics, weight and riding stability - just like exactly 20 years ago, when the ancestor of the Arcalis, the STEVENS SCF 1, was tested in TOUR issue 2-05 as the second lightest frameset. A look back at the 2005 lightweight construction league can also be found in the current issue of TOUR. The weight-conscious carbon construction has a long tradition at STEVENS.’
The TOUR test riders also praised the precise riding characteristics of the Arcalis. ‘On short laps and in race mode, the Stevens impresses with high riding stability, a distinctly sporty riding position and razor-sharp handling.’
In addition to the riding behaviour, the test editors also refer to the excellent price-performance ratio of the Arcalis, because ‘there is undoubtedly a lot for the money. Even with the most expensive components, you can't push the price over the 10,000 euro mark,’ according to TOUR magazine. This clearly sets the Arcalis apart from many of its competitors, which are in the five-digit euro range with comparable equipment.
But it's not just the absolute high-end group that will be happy with the Arcalis. ‘The (STEVENS Custom Bikes Configurator) modular system becomes really attractive with a much more limited budget. For less than 5,000 euros, for example, you can put together a speedster with a mechanical Shimano 105 and fast carbon wheels that could hardly be any slower aerodynamically,’ summarises the TOUR editorial team, awarding it a very good score of 1.9.
