Due to the impressive and versatile qualities of this new Gravel groupset, STEVENS has equipped 5 of its top models with it.
The GRX components differ from their road and trail counterparts in several key areas:
Anyone who turns off the asphalt onto gravel roads or even light trails more than once with their Gravel Racer will be pleased with the secure grip delivered by the raised lever head and the ribbed surface structure of the GRX brake/shift levers. The curved brake levers with anti-slip coating provide better ergonomics. As the brake lever axle is positioned a whopping 18 mm higher than the road bike components, less lever force is required - which is ideal on demanding descents and long rides when your hands begin to fatigue.
As off-road terrain is much rougher, the GRX rear derailleurs (RD-RX810 and RD-RX400) have adopted the stabilizer technology from their MTB siblings - recognizable by the addition of the name "Shadow+". When "Gravel Mode" is switched on, the movement of the rear derailleur arm is strongly damped for a stable drivetrain and continuous shifting with minimal chain bounce.
With 46 and 30 tooth chainrings, the FC-RX600 crankset undercuts even the previous "Master of the Mountains", namely compact cranks, by 4 teeth each. In combination with cassettes from the MTB range with up to 42 teeth on the largest sprocket, any brutal gravel climb can be mastered - even with "bike-packing" luggage on the bike. At the rear, the GRX group offers a choice of 10 or 11 gears. At the front, more tire clearance than its racing siblings due to a 2.5 mm higher chainline.
"With GRX there are no more excuses," claims SHIMANO with such strong arguments in its arsenal. STEVENS puts this bold claim into practice - in the form of 5 bike highlights that will take you further in a variety of ways:
