SHIMANO EP8 - The new number one for sporty E-MTB’s

Now the Japanese component market leader SHIMANO is taking it seriously - and is launching an ambitious attack on the previous top dog Bosch and its flagship product. The super-light and ultra-compact drive, simply named EP8, provides the STEVENS engineers with reason enough to put a completely new generation of full-suspension e-bikes with innovative carbon and aluminium frames on the studded tires.

Mighty Power

Compared to its predecessor E8000, the new EP8 motor has increased its torque from 70 to 85 Nm - due to legal regulations, the rated output may only be 250 watts. More important than a lot of "buzz", however, are the dosability and the responsiveness of the motor support. And here SHIMANO is now on a par with the competition. Especially in the "Trail" mode, which automatically regulates the motor's support power - very sensitively, according to the rider's wishes - the performance on demanding trails (!) is outstandingly good.

Minimum Weight

The EP8 motor unit weighs just 2.5 kilograms, thanks to the magnesium body and intelligent combination of 3 gear stages inside. Thus the small electric motor runs in its optimum speed range even at low cadence, in favour of efficiency and low demand for battery energy. The ultra-compact design also enables frame geometries that trail-addicted e-mountainbikers dream of: above all, the short chain stays give the chassis the necessary portion of agility to spread pure riding pleasure even on narrow, angled courses.

Perfect Partner

Not from SHIMANO's portfolio, but simply the ideal partner for the powerful EP8 drive is this 726Wh energy storage unit from Darfon. Securely hidden under the special rubber cover in the down tube of the new E-Inception frames, it is perfectly prepared for new records in long distance riding and altitude gain. At the same time, it can also supply a smartphone or GPS device with "juice" - via a USB C charging socket on the top tube, which is exclusive to STEVENS.

Tuning Tip

Thanks to SHIMANO's "E-Tube Ride" technology, a current smartphone can be used not only as an informative second display. There is also the "E-Tube Project" option - here different rider profiles can be created, each with individually adapted performance profiles in terms of support characteristics, maximum torque or the preferred support level when switching on.

Model Variety

From the super-light all-mountain rocket to the potent e-freerider, the all-new E-Inception model range offers attractive options in terms of riding fun and performance. All based on completely newly developed carbon frames that harmonise perfectly with the super-compact EP8 drive. The wheel mix (29" front/27.5" rear) guarantees efficiency and smooth handling. The high-quality suspension components from Fox and RockShox get every trail, no matter how rough, under control. And there is also an entry-level model with aluminium frame for those who want to save money.
