STEVENS E-Bikes & Bosch drive units

We have chosen a strong partner for the majority of STEVENS E-bikes - namely motor market leader Bosch.

The new pleasure of cycling goes by the name of E-bike - that's what happens when two sources of power are utilised optimally: your pedaling and the electric motor. STEVENS riders benefit from the most competent partners in their traditional field. When it comes to driving our most popular touring, urban, city and cross E-bikes, our full assist E-MTB fullys or E-hardtails, this is market leader Bosch with its immense technological expertise as the largest supplier in the automotive world. In Reutlingen in southern Germany, the Swabian inventors are constantly working to make drive unit technology even more sophisticated and efficient. The STEVENS engineers have chosen these motor highlights from the current, wide-ranging Bosch drive unit portfolio:

Bosch Performance Line CX Race

The Performance Line CX Race Limited Edition drive unit is based on the Performance Line CX drive unit and has been specially developed for E-MTB competitions and ambitious mountain bike athletes. In conjunction with the Race mode, which is exclusively available for this drive unit, the Race Limited Edition offers stronger and more vehement acceleration as well as maximum support power of 400 per cent of your own pedal power. A revised housing design also saves weight, so that the Performance Line CX Race Limited Edition drive unit weighs just 2.75 kilograms. The drive unit, which is supplied exclusively to manufacturers with a sports background, supports Bosch's ‘The smart system’. This allows it to be easily customised to the rider's personal requirements using the Bosch eBike Flow app.

Bosch G5 Performance Line CX

The centrepiece of our new E-Crossover and E-Hardtail top-of-the-line models is the Bosch G5 Performance Line CX (BDU384Y) Drive Unit. It has a revised housing design comparable to the Bosch Performance Line SX. At 2.84 kilograms, the updated drive unit is also lighter than the previous G4 Performance Line CX drive. However, the performance values have remained the same. The G5 Performance Line CX Drive Unit continues to offer a maximum torque of 85 Nm and a support factor of 60 to 340 per cent depending on the respective riding mode.

Bosch G4 Performance Line CX

Small, light, powerful and intuitive - the Bosch G4 (for 4th generation) Performance Line CX is one of the most powerful options for high-end E-bikes. It supports its riders with a maximum of 340 percent of their own pedal power and brings a beefy 85 Newtonmetres of torque into play. But pure power is not everything: the motor power is controlled particularly smoothly in the so-called ‘E-MTB’ mode, when the optimum support level is set automatically because the fine sensor system virtually reads the rider's wishes from the soles of their feet.

Tuning tip for riders of a STEVENS e-bike with the Bosch G4 Performance Line CX from model year 2020: on request, your STEVENS specialist dealer can give your drive unit the power update from 75 to 85 Newtonmetres of torque - preferably as part of the next (winter) service.

Bosch Performance Line SX

The Bosch Performance Line SX drive unit was designed for applications where the special ratio of weight and performance is paramount. With a maximum torque of 55 Nm and a support output of up to 340 percent, the Performance Line SX has plenty of power for sporty progress in urban environments, riding in hilly regions or with a heavy load. At the same time, with a low weight of around two kilograms and the compact dimensions of its magnesium housing, it offers a weight and size advantage over classic full-assist drives such as the Bosch Performance Line CX.

Bosch G3 Performance Line

It's labelled ‘Performance’, so there's a lot of power in this power pack: 250 watts and up to 75 Nm. On an E-bike, this means plenty of thrust in every riding situation - exactly what you were looking for. And the 3rd generation of this Bosch drive system (recognisable by the ‘full-size’ chainring) also shines with barely perceptible noise and minimal resistance when you want to exceed the 25 km/h threshold under your own power. The latest version of the Bosch Performance Line drive unit is also ‘The smart system’ capable. Easily recognisable by the specially shaped logo cover of the motor, as already familiar from the Performance Line CX (Race) drive unit.

Powerful, efficient, quiet - the latest generation of BOSCH engines fulfil high standards in themselves.
But there are even more ingredients to a successful driving experience:

Intelligently connected

The third-generation Bosch eBike system, known as ‘The smart system’, enables complete networking of components such as the drive unit, control unit, display, battery and the Bosch eBike ABS, as used on our E-Triton 9.8.1 Plus E-Tour or E-14 Plus E-City Bike, among others. The interface and central element of the smart system is the Bosch eBike Flow app, which allows you to customise the eBike to your own needs or to download the latest features, services or updates. In this way, the bike's drive unit is always up to date or can be expanded with Bosch's own additional functions such as the Bosch eBike Alarm with tracking option, eBike Lock theft protection, or navigation and route planning. In addition, the Bosch eBike Flow app enables the integration of the most popular bike apps, activity tracking and community networking.

Maximum range

With the PowerTube 800 battery, Bosch goes one better in terms of capacity. With an energy content of over 800 Wh, it is the most powerful frame-integrated battery in the Bosch eBike programme to date. Like the Bosch G5 Performance Line CX drive, the PowerTube 800 battery is used in the new STEVENS E-Inception TR 8.8.1, the E-Juke 8.8.1 FEQ and the E-Agnello 8.8.1.

Compact powerhouse

The Bosch CompactTube 400 battery is perfect for lightweight and agile E-bikes such as the STEVENS E-Simeto E-Urban Bike. With a weight of around two kilograms and a capacity of 400 Wh, it offers the highest energy density of all Bosch E-bike batteries. This enables practical ranges for urban traffic as well as for longer tours. Last but not least, the compact dimensions of the battery also allow for a slim down tube design of the E-Simeto frame.

If you fancy a little more

If you need reserves for particularly long tours, you can use the Bosch PowerMore 250 Range Extender. The bottle-sized additional battery weighs just 1.5 kilograms and can be easily attached to the existing bottle cage points on many STEVENS E-bikes.

Successful integration

A Bosch PowerPack 725 battery is concealed under this black cover, which is harmoniously adapted to the down tube shape of our E-Allround and E-Trekking frames - perfectly protected from the weather and cold and, with its 725 watt hours of energy, ideally prepared for the expeditions you will undertake in the future.

A classic rethought

The Intuvia display is a true classic in the Bosch portfolio, and the Intuvia 100 is a worthy successor. As the name suggests, Bosch's new Intuvia 100 display is particularly intuitive to use. Thanks to the black-and-white display and clear presentation, all relevant riding data such as speed, riding mode, percentage battery status, range, distance and riding time can be conveniently read at any time. Operation is via the LED remote and without having to take your hands off the handlebars. In order to be able to track the activity data after the ride, the Intuvia 100 continues to display values such as distance or ride duration for 60 seconds after removal. Thanks to Bluetooth connectivity, the Intuvia 100 is fully integrated into ‘The smart system’; activity tracking, customised riding modes and activation of the eBike Lock function can be easily carried out via the Bosch eBike Flow app. A newly developed holder allows flexible positioning of the display on the handlebars and either in front of or above the stem.

Innovative connection

The Kiox 300 display, the successor to the popular Kiox, is a real all-rounder. Developed for full integration into ‘The smart system’, it offers a customisable status bar, ergonomic operation via the LED remote and simple updates via Bosch's eBike Flow app. In conjunction with the appropriate apps, information on performance, cadence and calorie consumption can be displayed as well as navigation data or route planning. Developed primarily with sporty riders in mind, it offers a display that is protected against splash water and dust and is easy to read both day and night.

Small but mighty

The combined Bosch Purion 200 display and control unit is both compact and informative. It combines the familiar ‘L’ shape of the LED remote with a high-contrast display for intuitive E-bike control. The combination of remote and display enables a tidy cockpit design. The full integration of the smart system from Bosch enables simple software updates using the Bosch eBike Flow app as well as extensive features such as route planning, navigation, activity tracking and much more.

Pretty smart

That's smart! In E-MTB and Tour+ mode, the Bosch electronics take over the selection of the support level - and it is astonishing how quickly and precisely it switches between economical, gentle cruising and more vigorous pedalling power in E-MTB mode. Travelling sportily on a trekking bike? Then the Tour+ mode makes manual switching between riding modes superfluous by reducing the assistance on flat stretches, saving power, extending the radius and creating a natural riding sensation. On uphill sections, on the other hand, the fully automatic, stepless increase in motor assistance ensures fatigue-free driving even on long journeys. Things get really smart with the Auto mode. It eliminates the need to manually switch riding modes or increase the motor's own power on inclines or in headwinds. If the speed drops, the intelligent mode automatically adjusts and thus maintains the previous speed. Like the other riding modes, Auto mode can be customised via the eBike Flow app.

All driving modes available with the smart system can be freely combined. Exceptions are the Cargo and Race modes, which are only available with the corresponding drive units. STEVENS specialist dealers can activate up to four modes in addition to Off mode. This allows the E-Bike to be optimally customised to the rider's requirements. With the help of the customised riding modes, the Race (Bosch Performance Line CX Race Limited Edition only), Cargo (Cargo Line only), Turbo, Auto, eMTB, Sport, Tour+, Tour and Eco modes can be configured according to individual requirements via the eBike Flow app. The assistance, dynamics, maximum torque and maximum speed can be set within the specified range.

Plus in safety

The Bosch eBike ABS is used on our particularly high-quality E-Tour and E-City bikes such as the E-Triton 9.8.1 Plus and E-14 Plus. It guarantees greater riding stability, safety and comfort when braking and enables optimum deceleration on any surface, in any weather conditions and even during spontaneous, unforeseen braking manoeuvres. Technologically based on Bosch's motorbike ABS, the eBike ABS unit is very compact and offers different ABS modes for cargo, touring, all-road and trail use, specially adapted to the intended use. In addition to a classic anti-lock function, which prevents over-braking of the front wheel and thus slipping, a rear wheel lift-off control is also integrated into the system, which prevents extreme over-braking of the front wheel and thus unintentional lifting of the rear wheel. This allows the front brake to be used more actively and efficiently. By integrating the Bosch Kiox 300 display, information on braking behaviour can also be called up. When the front brake is applied, the braking distance and braking time are recorded and the results can be called up and analysed to optimise your own braking behaviour.

Always up to date

The Bosch eBike Flow app allows you to control all the functions of the smart system. It connects the drive unit, the battery, the display and the remote. This allows the E-bike to be customised, expanded and kept up to date according to personal requirements. New features and services can be easily downloaded and updates conveniently installed via Bluetooth. This keeps the E-bike up to date and allows it to be continuously expanded with new functions. The eBike Flow app also offers access to Bosch's own features such as navigation and route planning, activity tracking, eBike Alarm and eBike Lock as well as connection to popular bike apps.
